Redland UWE Wereys make EH Cup Final March 2017

Wereys Report March 2017

Redland UWE Wereys make EH Cup Final at Lee Valley on Sunday 30th April with a 3-1 win over Chester Vets - see match report below

Our semi-final in the O45 Cup was an away match at Chester on Sunday 5th March.

We travelled up in the team minibus courtesy of Nessa’s school bus the night before and stayed in a Premier Inn 5 minutes from the pitch at Chester HC ( at least it’s 5 minutes if you drive directly to the pitch rather than a half hour detour like we did!!)

We were at the pitch nice and early to familiarise ourselves with the pitch and surroundings and had a really good warm up. The game started really competitively and we were put under a lot of pressure by a very good Chester side who gave us no time on the ball. Despite feeling the early pressure we managed to attack up the middle of the pitch and Cath found herself just inside the circle with the ball on her reverse. There was nothing else for it but to try a reverse stick hit and to everyone’s shock(most of all Cath’s) the ball chipped over everyone’s head including the GK and into the net to make it 1-0 to Wereys. We soaked up a lot of pressure again but conceded a goal just before half time to make the score 1-1 at half time.

The second half was the usual dominating performance by Wereys and as the opposition tired we played some great linking hockey with Lucy and Elaine playing well together. At a short corner following a good move up the right Cath shot and hit the right post but Lucy managed to get onto the rebound to put the ball into the net to make it 2-1. We continued to press and were awarded with another goal from Sarah Thomson who managed to bundle the ball into the net making it 3-1. We controlled the rest of the half and finished comfortably in front and delighted to be in another final – this time the Cup Final where we will play Sevenoaks on 30th April at Lee Valley.

Another amazing year for Wereys.
